If you are looking to invest the time in understanding the economy and how poverty functions, grows, and fluctuates, this book is worth a read.

Poor Economics: A Radical Rethinking of the Way to Fight Global Poverty

You learn how the market generally keeps people trapped in poverty and steps on how to help reverse it. It is a very well written book and an eyeopener.

They won the nobel this year.  Development economics has been around as a practice probably since some of the earliest writings in Spain on the subject of Economics.  Totally agree, great book

It is scary yet fascinating how these trends impact people this way. I will be reading it again and taking notes the second time around. It really helped me understand the current state of poverty in the world, to say the least.
