I want to pursue a career in development economics. I searched google, but I am unable to find something informative. I want to know what exactly development economists do, and in which universities are such a course available and what is the scope of this course. Actually, I want to know anything that u can tell me about development economics.

I have read what's on Wikipedia, so please don't copy me that link ?

thanks

Hi John,

Typically you would get a masters in Economics or International Relations and then specialize in Development Economics.  Most graduate programs have very in depth Development Econ programs.  Also MIT has a program specifically geared around economic development taught by Nobel winner Esther Duflo.  The program starts out through edX's micromaster program and then you spend several semesters at MIT.  https://micromasters.mit.edu/dedp/

Economic development is called economies of developing or poor countries. It dealt with different economic development models. It is different from economic growth, because growth can be without development, and development means more than economics. It is supposed to understand social, environmental, cultural and political factors as well as an economic one. The career is in international organizations such as the UN, Development banks, or NGOs. There is also a future in some private big companies with social contributions as well. The world's best economic development program is in Berlin, Germany.

Very true.... Economic Growth can happen with tax reform as we have seen in the United States over the past 3 years.

I think it depends on the university or country where you will take the degree from. There are also online universities out there that offer master degree classes.
